Desperate and in need of a victory the Riverside Rebels set out last Saturday to take on the Redlands Mudcrabs at their home field.

The Rebels lost narrowly in their last clash with the Mudcrabs and sought to finish the job this time and move themselves up the ladder.

The Rebels started strong seeing great physicality in the forwards with front rowers Patrick Thollar and David Gall pressuring the opposition early.

Driving runs from loose forward Jake Becroft enabled the Rebels to move into Redlands territory showing signs of scoring.

However the Mudcrabs struck back when their fly half George Habib scored and converted putting the first points on the board.

With play running against them the Rebels fought back hard driving their opposition back in the scrums and miraculously stealing their ball in the lineouts when it was straight.

Sean Murtagh broke through the Redlands defence then scored and converted his try to equalise the match until Redlands scored and converted just before half time.

The Rebels battled out the second half building momentum as Morgan Davies and Vassa Afa entered the field to make an impact & cause problems for Redlands.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second half until Adam Mulherin crossed the line in the last play and Ben Mably converted to tie the game 14 all.

The players left the field with their heads high knowing they’d both done all they could in a game where both teams were evenly matched.
