The Riverside Rebels set out on Saturday to take on their local rivals, the Brisbane Hustlers, at Bottomley Park.

After their previous win against Redcliffe the Rebels had built some momentum leading into the game and set to end the first round of the competition well.

Looking anxious Riverside took to the field however it wasn’t long until the Hustlers scored building early tension between the teams.

Sean Murtagh responded with a try for Riverside after dominating lineouts and driving runs from the backs.

Both teams exchanged tries in the first half; setting the tone for the day with Ryan McLeod crashing over the line to reply to another Hustlers try.

Captain Adam Mulherin spoke at half time and encouraged the team to step up and play the full 80 minutes.

Prop Jack Colley subbed on at half time and immediately made an impact scoring a try and inspiring the team to persevere as the Hustlers scored twice more.

Centre Mark Wilkinson intercepted a loose Hustlers pass to put more points on the board before Jack Colley scored another try to end the game.

With the score 37-27 to Hustlers, Riverside left the field with their heads down as they failed to grab this much needed win.
